If you aren't Muslim and are curious as to why Muslims are cautious of the halal status of their food or you don't even know what halal is, we'll give you a quick rundown of what is halal and why it is important to Muslims.
Halal is the Arabic word that translates to permitted or lawful. Halal foods are foods that are permitted by the Syariah Law (law of Islam) to be consumed by Muslims and should be free from any component that Muslim are prohibited from consuming (eg. alcohol and gelatin made from unknown derivatives). Muslims have been very strict and cautious when it comes to Halal foods as they believe that what they eat will influence their soul and overall well-being.
We mentioned earlier that we are currently in the midst of applying for JAKIM Halal certification. Did you know that JAKIM really step up on their game of Halal certification and actually put an importance on the hygiene?
There's a term called 'Halalan Toyyiban' in Islam which means that the food is Halal and is good to be consumed. This is why they put hygienic control as a part of their standard evaluation. This is also the reason why it is quite hard for a company to be able to apply for Halal certification from JAKIM.
Now I bet you have already grasp on the reason why we are still in the midst of applying for our Halal certification, right? So guys, you can throw your worries away and enjoy our cookies to your heart content.
